It’s that time of year again, when I add on to the “best of” lists I have already published at Film Festival Today (where I am editor) and Hammer to Nail (where I am lead film critic). I will admit to some fatigue after doing comprehensive lists on this blog every year after also voting in my various critics’ groups and doing the above lists. Therefore, in 2023 (and in all years after this), I will only do a Top 20 in each category, documentary and narrative (fiction), without also doing my “worst” of the year nor any honorable mentions. Here, I do not differentiate animated movies from the rest, so if there is such a selection, you will find it in either documentary or narrative. So, 40 films is all you get, for now and evermore! Enjoy! Where I have previously reviewed a film, I link to that review in the title.
