Welcome to Cinemaniax!

Four years after the end of my television-hosting duties for Dragon Media, over at Howard Community College, I am back as the host of one of their new podcasts, Cinemaniax. So far, we have put out three episodes, which you can access on either YouTube (for video and audio) and PodBean (for just audio).

Check out those first three efforts, both of which include my conversation with a guest co-host on the topic at hand, and then an interview (or two) with a filmmaker. Here they are, for your viewing/listening pleasure:

  • Episode 101: The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival: YouTube / PodBean – Host, Chris Reed chats with film critic Charles Kirkland about their favorite films from this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Chris also catches up with filmmaker Sinéad O’Shea on location at the festival to discuss her documentary, Blue Road: The Edna O’Brien Story.
  • Episode 102: The 2024 Middleburg Film Festival: YouTube / PodBean – Host Chris Reed chats with film critic Cortland Jacoby about their favorite films from this year’s Middleburg Film Festival. At the festival, Chris caught up with director Michael Gracey to discuss Better Man (since nominated for a Best Visual Effects Oscar), a movie about British pop star Robbie Williams. Chris also sat down with director Shiori Ito to discuss her documentary Black Box Diaries (since nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar), which explores a traumatic event in her life.
  • Episode 103: Best Movies of 2024: YouTube / PodBean – Host Chris Reed and film critic Mae Abdulbaki share their top ten favorite films of the year and discuss which ones they think will win awards. Chris also talks with Peter Ettedgui, co-director of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, about this moving documentary that chronicles the highs and lows of actor Christopher Reeve’s life, including before and after the tragic 1995 horse-riding accident that paralyzed him from the neck down.
