Today, Dan Rodricks of The Baltimore Sun released an episode of his “Roughly Speaking” podcast in which I list, with great difficulty, 10 of my top films. I omitted foreign films (so we could have good English-language clips), pre-1940 films (or the list would go on and on), documentaries (ditto) and films only released within the last 10 years (too soon). Here is the link to that episode. Enjoy!
My list:
- The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
- It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
- Strangers on a Train (1951)
- High Noon (1952)
- Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
- The Godfather (1972)
- Back to the Future (1985)
- Do the Right Thing (1989)
- The Piano (1993)
- Nine Lives (2005)
